Aviation Tutorial 1 - Step 3
Next, I created a sketch of the left-hand aircraft using the grid method. The grid method is a good way of achieving accurate proportions - Firstly, you draw or place a grid over your reference picture, then lightly draw a similar grid onto your good paper scaling up in size as necessary. You then reproduce the contents of each square of your photo onto the paper. When finished, you should have an accurate, scaled reproduction line drawing of your reference picture. Once the sketch was in place, I added basic colours and details for the aircraft using Artists and Studio pencils for the finer details. I then decided where the second Lancaster was to be located and sketched it in the same way.
